When Life Hands You Lemons...

Summer vacation is really the best.   It means no alarm clocks for me, except for the sound of Gabrielle babbling from her crib.  For Samantha and Sarah, it means no schedules, chores, and then fun.

Back in April, the girls had wanted to run a lemonade stand, but the weather was pretty chilly to have one.   I had promised them that we would have to hold one in the Summer time.   We live just up the street from a hospital, and every once in awhile, we hear the Med-Flight Helicopter flying over our house and landing at the hospital.   Jeremy and I explained to the girls what Med-Flight does and the different scenarios:  Med-Flight could be picking up a patient and flying them to Boston; the copter could be dropping off at the hospital down the street from us; it could be bringing life saving organs.

About two weeks ago, the girls decided one morning that they were going to hold a lemonade stand in the front yard.   Samantha decorated the poster while Sarah gathered the Solo cups and made a big pitcher of lemonade to put into the refrigerator.   While the lemonade was chilling, Sarah gathered the card table, and the ice packs for the ice chest.   I do have to say, the girls did a great job planning the event.   Then Samantha said something to me that made me so proud to be her mother,

"Mommy!  We should donate the money we get for the lemonade stand to the hospital down the street!"

So, needless to say, the girls have decided to hold their stand about 2-3 times a week.   We've met a lot of people:  nurses who work at the hospital down the street, former nurses who work at the hospital down the street, teachers, dog walkers, and police officers and finally, the mayor of our city.  What a great experience for our girls, and we couldn't be prouder or happier.

To date, the girls have raised $45.00!
