A Gold Star Kind Of Day

So yesterday was a very long, but a very fun day. The weather in Boston wasn't cooperating so we decided to just hang around home. Next thing I knew, it was time for lunch, and afterwards, the girls started to get cabin fever so we decided to run some errands and then head over to Market Basket to do some grocery shopping.

Now, I know what you're thinking: grocery shopping with two young children? She must be crazy. Actually, I am crazy. (No comments from the peanut gallery). I really enjoy grocery shopping and I enjoy grocery shopping with the Madore-ables. Jeremy was having a meeting at work, I knew I didn't have to be home at a certain time so we packed up our list and headed out. We played our two favorite games "Scavenger Hunt" and "I Spy". I even had other children playing with us, and I received a look from one of the children that said "Is this lady crazy? Why doesn't she know where the milk is located...it's right in front of her. DUH!" The Madore-ables "flirted" with all the shoppers and had conversations with them. It's one big social event for them.

One of the other reasons I enjoy grocery shopping is sometimes my "Mommy Brain" kicks into gear and I forget to put things on the list to buy. So, Detective Samantha's brain kicks into gear to substitute my brain and she informed me that we were out of bleach wipes (which I love by the way) and we needed to pick some up. Samantha even reminded me (in front of other mothers in the aisle) that "Mommy, it's ok if you lost your mind. Mine still works."

Well, the games kept my girls occupied...all 2 hours that we were there. We had an absolute blast. A good time was had by all.

Then we came home, the girls played some more while I unloaded the groceries and put everything away. Soon after, we had dinner, then a quick bath and I informed the girls that we were going to have a surprise because they were VERY good for me and such a big help for me at the grocery store: a movie/slumber party. Jeremy was gone at his meeting until 9:00p, and the girls missed him very much, so we made bedtime extra fun. I went "all out" a little bit and made some pop corn and set up the living room so that they could be comfy to watch a movie. The girls have had popcorn plenty of times, but they've never seen how pop corn is actually made. I couldn't take pictures at the time, but you should have seen the girls faces watching the hot air popper...it was hysterical.

(The pictures aren't the greatest because they were so excited and couldn't sit still...these were the only pictures that weren't blurry, ha ha)

  1. I used to love going grocery shopping with my mother. My favorite part was being pushed around in the carriage and getting a little box of animal crackers.

I miss the Market Basket in Andover, but I hear the new Stop&Shop is nearly ready to open.
