I have two framed ultra-sound photos above our television in our living room: one for Samantha and one for Sarah. Samantha once in awhile asks me to pull them down so she can look at them. She'll ask questions like, "Is that Sarah's nose?" or "Is that my face?". Very sweet, innocent questions. Then, much to my surprise, Samantha asked me how was the picture taken? I thought it was a very smart, valid question so I answered that the baby grows in the Mommy's tummy and every so often, the baby doctor has to check out the Mommy and the baby for an appointment at the doctor's office and takes pictures of the baby just to make sure the baby is healthy. So, Jeremy the Madore-ables and I are getting ready to head out and I mentioned to Jeremy that our sister-in-law, Kate and my brother-in-law Christian are expecting a baby any day now. The baby is late, so Samantha says:
Samantha: "The baby is growing inside of Aunt Kate's tummy Daddy!"
Jeremy/I: "Yes, Sam. That's right"
Samantha: "Just like Sarah and me. We grew inside of Mommy's tummy too!"
(I promise this continues and will stay a "G-rated" conversation)
Jeremy/I: "Yes, Sam. That's right"
(Here, the conversation drifts a little, and I truthfully forget where it goes. But as we get back to the conversation, Samantha mentions that the baby stays in Mommy's tummy until the baby is born. Again, another smart, valid point).
Samantha: "The baby stays in the Mommy's tummy until the baby is born."
Jeremy/I: "Yes, Sam. That's right". You can't be in Mommy's tummy anymore because you're already born. God decided the day you were going to be born."
Samantha: (after a long, thoughtful pause) "Someday, maybe Daddy will hold us in his tummy!"
Oohhhhh boy.
P.s- The ultrasound picture was taken in January 2007 right after we found out we were pregnant with Samantha. I'm wondering if anyone thought if the girls were going to be big sisters again? Hee hee.
