Yesterday, Jeremy and I took the Madore-ables to church. Mass began, and the usual processing began down the isle along with a special treat: the Knights Of Columbus. Usually the KOC aren't included in the Mass service unless there's something special. Yesterday just happened to be the 50th anniversary of the new inductees for officers in the chapter that participates at our parish. If you're not familiar with the KOC, if they participate in a Mass they are dressed in black caps with white plume feathers, black suit jackets with black dress pants with a sash draped diagonally over the shoulder and a silk cape. A pretty fancy event!
So when the KOC processed in, Samantha stared and watched very quietly, although I could see the wheels turning in her head. She was just itching to ask a question about these strange looking men with crazy feathers sticking out of their hats. Strangely enough, Sam never asked anything about the men with feathers in their hats...until after Mass had ended which I was very surprised.
After everyone had processed down the aisle to announce the end of the Mass, and after we said our goodbyes to the priest who conducted the Mass, it was then Samantha asked:
"Daddy? Can I have a hat and a cape like those men inside?"
Those wheels must have been turning the entire church service. I would have paid money to hear those little thoughts that must have been running through her mind.
